Since 1999, Running Unlimited customers have been donating pre-worn shoes
to be sent to impoverished people of other countries. Because of your generosity,
nearly 4500 pairs of shoes have been sent to make life easier for these people.
A special thank you goes to local schools for the large quantity of shoes they
have collected.
Because of the overwhelming response from all of you, we are
going to take a break from collecting shoes and start collecting bikes to be sent
to Zambia, Africa. We invite you to join us in this new opportunity! As with the
shoes, the bikes will be distributed by Bright Hope International, a relief and development organization committed to helping those living in extreme poverty. Their headquarters is in Hoffman Estates.
Andy Patchings, a Bright Hope partner in Zambia, reports, “We have quite a number
of people who travel a considerable distance on foot to visit people in their homes
and they would so appreciate the help of a bike. If you could consider adding bike
locks, we would be very grateful, as it is so important that we keep the bikes once
you have so kindly made sure we received them!”
The shoe and bike collection are
part of Bright Hope’s “Relief Enroute” program. If you or your group would like
to know more about Bright Hope International and its various programs, visit
their website, www.brighthope.org, or call them at 847/519-0012. Also watch their
website for information on an upcoming 5K race to benefit Bright Hope!
