If you are properly fit for your training shoes, they should offer you the appropriate
amount of stability and cushioning you require for your training regimen.
However, sometimes during the course of your training, injuries may crop up or you may feel that you
need some additional cushioning. Thankfully, you don't have to buy a new
pair of shoes (although if you've put over 500 miles on one pair, they're done- trust us...)
you can always add an insole! There are a lot of insoles out there, so be sure that you are buying the proper
type of insole. There are basically two types- cushioning insoles or supportive insoles.
Cushioning insoles will just provide additional cushioning. If you aren't having injury problems or
you're running higher mileage, a cushioned insole can help you stay injury-free by absorbing some extra pounding.
Supportive insoles are over-the-counter orthotics, which
have a molded plastic arch support piece added to the bottom of the insole. This will support your arch and
reduce your rate of pronation. If you are having injury problems, such as plantar fasciitis, adding a supportive
insole and doing the proper exercises can help to alleviate the injury.
Heel cups can also help to relieve plantar fasciitis or other heel
injuries by cradling and cushioning the heel. Please visit our
injury prevention section for more suggestions and tips regarding the only downside of running- injuries. If you are not sure what type of insole would be
best for you, please drop us an email or give us a call!
